The Internship Opportunity
ACLED is recruiting a Project Management Office Intern to join our Project Management Office, which is part of the Executive team, for a minimum period of 3 to 6 months.
This internship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in project management and strategic implementation within a nonprofit environment. The Intern will work remotely under the supervision of the Head of Executive Office.
ACLED will be able to provide proof of acceptance of the internship role as well as successful completion of the internship.
This position is fully remote and can be done from any location with reliable internet service.
This position is open to Bachelor’s or Master’s students in their final years and students seeking a work placement as part of their academic studies. Recent graduates seeking practical experience or aiming to start a career in project management may also apply.
Specific roles and responsibilities
The Intern will support project coordination and strategic plan implementation by performing the following tasks:
- Assist in preparing and maintaining project management documents (e.g., project briefs, risk registers, communication management approaches, Gantt charts, reports etc.) alongside team members based on team discussions, ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic plan.
- Contribute to the implementation and upkeep of project workflows in Asana, working closely with the PMD team and departmental representatives.
- Support coordination efforts between departments to help ensure timely and efficient project management practices.
- Support Executive Team in the day-to-day implementation of the Access function, including tier assignments and email responses.
- Support with keeping the users’ database clean and fully up to date.
- With approval and guidance from the manager, contribute to documenting project risks and lessons learned, and help prepare relevant communications for the Risk Management Committee.
- Assist in preparing meeting agendas, capturing meeting notes, and tracking follow-up on action items.
- Support the monitoring of project progress, including KPI tracking, and help the team compile periodic reports for internal leadership and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate with the DMEL team where necessary for proper project tracking and reporting.
- Help facilitate collaboration between departments and executive leadership to support the successful implementation of strategic initiatives.
- Serve as a liaison, under supervision, between the executives, department heads, and the PMD Office to help ensure project deliverables align with organizational goals.
- Assist in scheduling and organizing project-related meetings, particularly those related to strategic plan implementation.
- Perform other duties as requested by the manager.
Skills and competencies
Education
- Required: A recently completed or almost-completed bachelor’s or master’s degree, preferably in project management, business administration, monitoring and evaluation, operations management, organizational psychology, or any other related field.
- Preferred: An interest in or previous experience in project management, or a relevant certification or training completed.
Preferred experience (i.e., we don’t expect you to check every box on this list, but please mention the experiences you do have on your CV or in your cover letter):
- Managing projects through Asana platform.
- Experience in organizing meetings and notetaking.
We’re also looking for:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills—fluency in English is essential.
- Ability to multitask and collaborate with colleagues across departments in a fast-paced, remote environment with limited supervision
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Close attention to detail
- An ability to meet deadlines and communicate effectively on the status of projects
- A willingness to seek and implement feedback as well as provide constructive feedback to others
