The Role

As Engineering Manager, you’ll manage day-to-day execution for a high-performing team of engineers. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, your core responsibility is to run the engine: drive sprint execution, remove blockers, ensure cross-functional clarity, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks – from backlog to release. This is a fast-paced, execution-focused role that demands clarity, consistency, and urgency.

We’re looking for a technically fluent operator, someone who can lead standups, spot delivery risks, maintain Jira hygiene, and participate meaningfully in architectural discussions without needing to write code. You should be comfortable navigating technical conversations with senior engineers while also bringing a pragmatic, outcome-driven mindset to sprint planning and team execution.

A key part of this role is reinforcing a culture of AI-first thinking across engineering. That means encouraging the team to use AI tools to accelerate decisions, streamline documentation, and reduce low-leverage work – keeping the focus on outcomes, not ceremony.

This role is critical to our next phase of growth. You will be the glue that keeps execution tight, communication crisp, and quality high – without requiring constant involvement from executive leadership. What You’ll Do

• Run sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives; maintain focus on outcomes, not ceremony

• Own and enforce a smooth Jira process that supports high-velocity development

• Coordinate across departments to clarify requirements and unblock work

• Partner with the Head of Engineering to align on roadmap priorities, capacity, and timelines

• Coordinate and communicate around releases, ensuring QA and key stakeholders are looped in

• Be the go-to resource for your team – triaging issues, escalating when needed, and removing blockers

• Continue a culture of speed, ownership, and solution-oriented thinking

• Work with the Head of Engineering to define KPIs that reflect our performance culture – motivating developers without resorting to vanity metrics

• Set a high bar for engineering culture, velocity, and quality

• Install a culture of AI-first thinking across the team to boost individual and team-wide efficiency

• Champion the daily use of AI tools across engineering workflows (planning, documentation, communication, debugging)

Who You Are

• Experienced engineering leader with 5+ years in an engineering management or tech lead role, preferably at a startup or fast-paced environment

• Background in software engineering (you can speak fluently with devs, even if you’re not writing code daily)

• Expert in Agile development and sprint operations; expert level knowledge of Jira

• Comfortable working independently and remotely, with strong written and verbal communication skills

• Operates with ownership and urgency – doesn’t wait for direction to fix what’s broken or push things forward

• Passion for AI tooling and automation to reduce grunt work and boost team velocity

• Organized, proactive, and capable of operating in ambiguity while driving clarity

• Experience managing distributed engineering teams across multiple time zones.

• Located in or available to work full-time in the EST timezone
