SafetyWing (YC W18, $35M Series B) is on a mission to remove the role of geographical borders as a barrier to equal opportunities and freedom for everyone. And we are doing that by creating simple health, insurance, and retirement products for remote workers worldwide as a replacement for national welfare systems.We are seeking a Head of Accounting to help us successfully chart and execute the path towards our vision. In this role, you will work directly with the CFO, the Head of Payroll and Benefits and oversee an Accounting Associate, as part of a closely knit Finance team, and will be responsible for producing all our backward looking numbers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee financial operations, including reporting, compliance, consolidations, bookkeeping, treasury, tax, transfer pricing and accounts payable
  • Support international tax planning and compliance and act as the main contact for tax authorities, ensuring compliance  in the US, Norway, Puerto Rico, and beyond
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders such as auditors and tax partners
  • Provide strategic financial insights to guide leadership decisions

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in accounting, financial reporting (including audits), compliance, consolidations, and tax in a global company (including working with Netsuite)
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP and work with international tax regulations 
  • Expertise in treasury/liquidity management, payments, and accounts management
  • Experience working with external accounting firms and tax advisors
  • A problem-solving mindset with a focus on process improvements
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with tax authorities, auditors, and stakeholders
  • A strategic yet hands-on approach, balancing planning and execution
  • A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (CPA, ACCA, or similar is a plus)
  • Experience in the insurance industry (preferred but not required)
