ABOUT THE ROLE
Second Front Systems (2F) is seeking an ambitious and visionary UX Designer to join our mission-driven team. We are a dynamic, fast-growing entrepreneurial company at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and national security, committed to delivering transformative solutions that empower our nation’s defenders. This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a company that is redefining the way software is delivered and secured in the defense sector.
At 2F, we thrive on innovation and purpose, combining a startup’s agility with a clear mission to support national security. You will be at the forefront of driving the UX strategy behind the deployment and scaling of our revolutionary Game Warden platform—an industry-leading tool that is accelerating the secure adoption of mission-critical SaaS solutions for the U.S. government. If you’re ready to contribute to a team that values ingenuity, collaboration, and impact, we want to hear from you
Note: This role requires U.S. citizenship due to government contract requirements. Additionally, candidates must reside in one of our approved hiring hubs:

- Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC
- Denver/Colorado Springs, CO
- Dallas/Fort Worth, TX
What you’ll do
- Take ownership of the user experience for key workflows within our customer application, focusing on deployment, configuration, and the accreditation journey. You’ll simplify complex processes into clear, guided steps.
- Work closely with product managers, engineers, and subject matter experts (including compliance and security teams) to understand the intricacies of platform deployment and government accreditation. You’ll then translate these into intuitive designs.
- Plan and execute user research activities (interviews, usability testing, surveys) with our commercial software providers to understand their needs, pain points, and mental models. Use insights to inform design decisions.
- Develop detailed user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and polished visual designs that effectively communicate design solutions to stakeholders and engineering teams.
- Incorporate feedback from user testing, internal reviews, and technical constraints into your designs, ensuring continuous improvement and a high-quality user experience.
- Work within and contribute to our existing design system, ensuring consistency and scalability across the product.
- Partner closely with product management to define features, and with engineering to ensure designs are technically feasible and implemented to specification.
- Champion user-centered design principles throughout the product development lifecycle, ensuring the customer’s needs remain at the forefront of every decision.
Skills You’ll Bring to Our Team
- 3-4+ years of professional experience as a Product Designer, UX Designer, or UI Designer for complex web applications or SaaS products.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating your design process, problem-solving skills, and successful delivery of user-centered design solutions for complex workflows. Please include examples of how you simplified challenging tasks.
- Proficiency with design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar). Figma experience is preferred.
- Experience conducting user research (e.g., user interviews, usability testing, competitive analysis) and translating findings into actionable design insights.
- Solid understanding of user-centered design principles, information architecture, interaction design, and visual design.
- Ability to understand technical constraints and collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions clearly and persuasively.
- A passion for our mission to strengthen national security.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing for technical users, developers, or B2B enterprise software.
- Familiarity with the concepts of cloud deployments (AWS, GCP, Azure), CI/CD pipelines, or containerization (Kubernetes, Docker).
- Understanding of government compliance frameworks (e.g., ATO, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53) and the challenges associated with them.
- Experience contributing to or maintaining a design system.
